Haider Ackermann Appointed as Tom Ford’s New Creative Director

Could 2024 mark a pivotal year for Haider Ackermann? Following his appointment as the creative leader of outdoor brand Canada Goose earlier this year, Ackermann now confirms his role as the Creative Director at Tom Ford. «It is with great pride that I will honor the legacy of Tom Ford, a man I have admired for a long time and hold in high regard,» Ackermann said in an official statement.

The French-Colombian designer will work from Paris, taking over from Peter Hawkings, who held the position from April 2023 to July 2024. Hawkings had succeeded Tom Ford himself, who left the company at the end of 2022 after its sale to The Estée Lauder Companies. While the beauty division had been under Lauder’s control for years, the fashion arm is now managed by the Ermenegildo Zegna Group.

«I’ve admired Haider’s work for a long time,» Tom Ford said upon the announcement of the appointment. «I find his women’s and men’s collections equally fascinating. His talent for color and sharp cuts, combined with a modern approach, makes him the perfect fit. We share many historical influences, and I can’t wait to see his vision for the brand.»

Ackermann, who trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, previously served as the Artistic Director at Berluti from 2016 to 2018. Known for collaborations with designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as brands like Fila and Augustinus Bader, Ackermann also runs his own label.

Ackermann will present his first collection for Tom Ford at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. Tom Ford, celebrating the brand’s 20th anniversary next year, expressed his excitement by stating, «I believe I’ll be the first one standing to applaud after his show.»
