NYFW: Nanushka’s Spring/Summer 2025: A 20-Year Celebration of Craftsmanship and Innovation

Nanushka’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, titled «Paper», commemorates the brand’s 20th anniversary. Led by founder and creative director Sandra Sándor, the collection draws from the past two decades of Nanushka’s design evolution. Craftsmanship remains at the core of the brand, with this season’s garments highlighting the human touch in the creative process. The collection revolves around the theme of fabric manipulation and paper cutting, symbolizing the balance between reflection and progress in fashion.

Inspired by art and design books, the concept of paper as a medium underscores the collection’s approach, harking back to the fundamentals of creative research. The work of conceptual artist Robert Morris informs the minimalist style that dominates two key garments: a modular cape crafted from regenerated leather and wool silk. The collection also introduces paper-like knit forms and tree-shaped crochet cutouts, reinforcing Nanushka’s commitment to unique, handcrafted designs.

A renewed focus on knitwear sees the creative reuse of older fabrics, cutting and hand-knitting them into fresh textures. Techniques such as slicing, fringing, and layering breathe new life into excess materials, with pleated poplin used innovatively throughout the collection.

Proportions are manipulated to balance color, scale, and silhouette, showcasing the brand’s dedication to experimentation. A standout is the new fabric looping technique, which adds a 3D effect to several pieces, including a striking miniskirt and halter top set.

Western-style belt details and metal hardware bring a subtle toughness to tailored pieces, while fluid satin and rib jersey fabrics create draped elegance. The collection’s accessories include the hero Sandi Bag, crafted from Alt-Nappa tiles and adorned with house Kopjafa symbols, further elevating the brand’s iconic design language. The palette is dominated by neutral tones, with new shades of henna, red orange, olive, and lime bringing freshness. Signature patterns include cheetah prints and updated stripes.

Reflecting on Nanushka’s two-decade journey, Sandra Sándor noted: “It’s been an emotional experience for me and the entire team. This collection honors the design processes that have shaped Nanushka, emphasizing the human touch in every detail.»
