Venezuelan designers make their way onto the Paris catwalks

«Fashion fades. Style is eternal». This repeated phrase, sometimes attributed to Coco Chanel and other times to Yves Saint Laurent, seems more valid today than ever. In keeping with the permanence that El Carabobeño has sustained for 91 years against all odds, the Style section resumes its space after being published in its print edition for five years.

The Estilo section of El Carabobeño first appeared at the beginning of 2010 as a page that alternated space with the Social page of “El Diario del Centro”. For five years, it grew to become a fifth body published on Fridays, serving as a showcase for the new generation of Venezuelan creatives who shared space with notes on international fashion trends, gastronomy and “good taste”.

In this new stage, our intention is to pick up where we left off, now using not only current communication channels, but also a broader and deeper vision of style.

Venezuelan designers

The timing is ideal to rescue this section. It happens right at the end of the Paris Fashion Week, which closes the intense calendar of fashion shows for the upcoming spring-summer season, after passing through New York, London and Milan. A litany of fashion shows, presentations, events and strategic decisions of the multimillionaire fashion industry saturate the pupils of its followers: here we rescue the participation of some Venezuelans in the framework of the Paris fashion week.

Nayibe Warchausky

The renowned Valencian jewelry designer Nayibe Warchausky took advantage of the development of the Paris fashion week to present her latest proposal. Entitled “Béton Brut” (raw concrete), the collection is inspired by the brutalist architectural movement, especially in buildings such as the Teresa Carreño Theater and Central Park in Caracas. Thus, she proposes earrings, bracelets, rings and brooches with sophisticated angular designs bathed in gold and palladium.

Warchausky was also invited to Lacoste, southeastern France, where students of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) approached jewelry design through the trajectory of the Venezuelan architect. Also, the designer was part of the first Azzi + Co showroom in Paris.

Efraín Mogollón

Efraín Mogollón, from Maracay, presented in Paris a new collection that renews the style that characterizes him, full of light volumes that bring a lot of glamour, in fresh and contemporary silhouettes that are constantly praised by his devoted clientele.

Entitled “Trasiego”, her Fall-Winter 2024 collection is inspired by the rum aging process and the historical rum tradition of the State of Aragua.

The colors are inspired by the wood of the barrels, the color of the rum, the pairing process and the wine, with the main palette in browns, burgundy and black.

Nabel Martins

When we visited Nabel Martins in her showroom on Delcassé Avenue in Paris, we came across a selection of blue, white and red dresses that stand out in the privileged space run by Venezuelan gallery owner Leonor Parra. When we suggested an intentional selection of colors to emulate the French flag, the Venezuelan fashion designer realized the coincidence.

Her collection “Epiphany II”, she confesses, “is one of the collections that has allowed me to dream the most”. Her proposal is composed of dresses in silhouettes that “stylize”, fluid fabrics and solid colors that benefit versatility and timelessness. The essence of these designs has already met with the approval of Martins’ clients, and the designer has taken them to their full potential.

Tarbay

Sisters Ana Sofia and Marta Tarbay, from the Margarita-based firm Tarbay, also made a stop in the French capital to present their “Maiara” collection, which refreshes their well-known style of accessories based on wire-wrapping techniques and their selection of pearls, as well as incorporating a collection of handbags and garments that embody their “island glamour” style.
